A Short Course in the Art of Embroidery and Embroidered PatchesEmbroidery is the art or process of forming a decorative design with hand or machine needlework or sewing. When our artists work on a custom embroidery job for a customer, they are determining exactly where on a piece of white or colored twill to place stitches of various colored threads to form the image that you want to achieve. In some (but relatively few) cases the actual stitching of the design covers the entire surface of the twill, but in most cases a portion of the underlying twill becomes the "background" for the design. Using a colored twill can be quite helpful and cost saving method of achieving the exact look that you want without having to fully cover the underlying twill with more costly stitches. The art of making the exceptional quality embroidered patches that we produce is based on our ability to accurately translate your design, logo or idea into the medium of embroidered artwork by creating a computer program to operate our state of the art, computer controlled embroidery machines. We then start with a very high quality white or colored twill (we have more than 100 different color twills) and using equally high quality colored threads (we have almost every imaginable color as well as metallic threads) sew the computer generated pattern of threads onto the twill to form the exact design that you want. The patches are then precision cut and edged to meet your exact needs. Depending on how the embroidered patch is to be used, we may apply different types of backing material to the underside of the twill of the finished patch. If for example you are going to sew the finished patch to a garment no special backing would be needed, but in other applications where sewing might be impractical we may apply a "heat-seal" backing for the customer to use in conjunction with a heat-seal machine to apply the patches. Now that you understand how patches are embroidered on underlying twill, the method for pricing is much easier to understand. There are three main factors that determine the price of your custom embroidered patches and emblem embroidery. These factors are quantity, the patch size and the percentage of emblem embroidery that covers the patch. You generally know how many patches you need and the approximate size that you want, but frequently have difficulty in determining the percentage of embroidery coverage on the patch. For more details on emblem
